Holly Holm Is A Bad Matchup For Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino

Throughout her MMA career, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino has shown a tendency to walk down his opponents in an attempt to get them into striking range. If Cris is successful, she will feint or throw the left jab followed by a straight/ overhand right to force the opponent to slide back out of range; because she wants to avoid the possibility of being hit with the punch. When the adversary moves backward, Cyborg will take a couple of steps forward and restart the process of feinting or throwing the left jab followed by a straight/ overhand right; until the foe is near the fence. Once this happens, she will repeatedly throw a straight or overhand right with the intention of severely hurting or knocking out her adversary. For instance, during the fight against Tonya Evinger, Cyborg feinted or threw left jab followed by a straight/ overhand right forcing Evinger to run away on numerous occasions. Eventually, Tonya surrendered so much ground due to the threat of her combination that she was near the fence. As a result,  Cyborg began to unload the right hand along with some knees which led to the finish.

However, one can argue that Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino’s fighting style will be the catalyst for a potential defeat to Holly Holm. This is because Holm has shown a willingness to surrender octagon or cage space in an attempt to force the opponent to be the aggressor and close the distance. This strategy gives her a chance to pick up tendencies and defensive flaws she could exploit during the fight. For instance, during the fight against Raquel Pennington, Holm realized that Pennington was coming towards her in a straight line with the hands at chest height which meant that the head and body were wide open. Due to this, every time Pennington would get within striking range Holm would try to land a straight left to the head or right side-kick in an attempt to make Pennington stop her progress. This strategy allowed Holm to get the victory because she was able to be the more effective striker and move out of range before Pennington could land a counter.

As a result, Holly Holm will allow Cyborg to come forward, and she’ll quickly realize that Cris has two flaws that can be easily exploited. For instance, Cyborg continually has her hands at chest height and will only move the right hand up to block head strikes on the right side of her face. Due to this, Cyborg leaves her midsection wide open to be repeatedly targeted by her opponent. Furthermore, she usually leaves a medium size gap between her left arm and the left side of the face because; Cyborg wants to have the ability to consistently pepper the foe with the left jab. Therefore, Holly Holm will have an opportunity to land the right side-kick to the body when Cyborg is closing the distance forcing her to stop coming forward for a few seconds. The strategy allows Holm to circle out to the left away from the power hand and on the way out she may land a straight left on the left side of the face. This strategy should help Holly Holm pick up the victory over Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino.
