Impact Wrestling Should Turn Austin Aries Heel

Over the past nine months, Austin Aries has been on a mission to prove that he had become a better person since leaving the WWE. This is because Aries was released from the company due to his bad attitude. According to Dave Meltzer, Austin had some heat backstage heat because a lot of people, including the writing team, did not like him. Due to this, Aries developed a plan where he would compete in several independent wrestling promotions to capture as many championships as possible. The plan would put Austin’s personality to the test because if he wanted to become champion, Aries would need to build a good relationship with all these managements for them to put him in title matches. As of right now, it seems like his personality has passed the test because several independent promotions have decided to give him the world championship For instance,  Austin Aries defeated Ricochet on November 20th, 2017 to become the World Series Wrestling champion. In December of 2017 he defeated Marty Scurll and  Mark Haskins in separate matches to capture the Defiant World Championship and IPW: UK World Championship. Lastly, in February of 2018 he defeated Eli Drake to capture the Impact Wrestling World Championship.

Even though Austin Aries appears to have altered his personality, Impact Wrestling should incorporate his previous personality issues into the storyline of him losing the title. For instance, Aries should cut a promo on the next episode of Impact demanding his rematch clause be invoked right away. Pentagon Jr comes down to the ring and gives Aries a rematch for later that evening. During the match, Rey Fenix joins commentary to watch the bout, Austin becomes aware of his presence and is continuously peeking over to make sure Rey doesn’t decide to help his brother. The concern over a potential Fenix interference will end up costing Austin Aries the match against Pentagon. The next week,  Aries should cut a promo stating that every time he is in the ring with one or both of the lucha brothers, it feels like a handicap match. Austin proceeds to ask for another rematch with Rey barred from ringside and Pentagon says that he already beat him. The following week, Austin decides he must take matters into his own hands to get another championship match.

As a result of this,  Austin Aries attacks Rey Fenix backstage sending him to the hospital. The following week, Pentagon Jr asks Aries why he attacked Fenix,  Aries says he did it because Pentagon refused to give him a fair rematch. Pentagon says all you had to do was earn it and Aries replies with I’m better than those scrubs backstage.  Pentagon decides to give him one final match to get retribution for his brother.

How To Rebuild Impact Wrestling

Over the past three weeks, the new regime of Impact Wrestling led by Don Callis and Scott D’Amore has been booking random tag team matches as a way to set up number one contender/title bouts. During the first official episode under the regime, they scheduled an all-star tag-team match between Moose/ Johnny Impact vs. EC3/Alberto El Patron. The following week, it was announced by Josh Matthews that these four wrestlers were going to compete in a fatal four way to determine a number one contender for the world championship. Johnny Impact was able to win the number one contender’s match and earned the right to face Austin Aries at Crossroads. Unfortunately, the new regime decided to set up a bout between Johnny Impact/ Matt Sydal vs. EC3 and Tyrus the following week. In the match, EC3 pinned the new number one contender Johnny Impact by having his feet on the ropes during a roll up. After the bout, Matthews announced that Impact was putting his future title shot up for grabs against EC3 in the main event of the next television episode. Due to this, the new regime is sending the signal to fans that anytime a number one contender or champion is in a tag team match, one of the other competitors will be their next opponent.

However, if the new regime wanted to create worthy contenders for all their championships, they should’ve told Matthews to cut a promo stating; from now on Impact is a place where title shots are earned not given. He proceeds to announce that over the next two months the company will hold a single elimination tournament for every division to establish ranking systems. The winners of these tournaments will get the next shot at their respective champions at the upcoming pay per view event. On the other hand, the other competitors will be ranked by order of elimination in the tournament. For example, if a wrestler lost in the finals he will be listed behind the number one contender.

Furthermore, Impact’s ranking system would be based on how often a person competes and their record against other competitors in the division. For instance, if a wrestler sustains an injury which forces him to miss 3 or more months of TV, he or she will be removed from the rankings. Once the wrestler is cleared to return to action, they will have to beat every ranked opponent to earn a title shot. Not only will previously injured wrestlers have to run the gamut but wrestlers who are currently in the rankings will compete at least once a month against each other to maintain or improve their position. Lastly, if a wrestler wants to join another division, he must relinquish their spot in the current division to join the new division. Once this happens, they will have to beat every ranked opponent to earn a title shot.

In conclusion, the ranking system opens the door for storylines where champions cost competitors title shots or wrestlers cost each other matches to maintain their positions.

Alberto El Patron Should Join LAX At Bound For Glory

About four months ago, several media outlets reported that Alberto El Patron was involved in a domestic violence incident with WWE superstar Paige at the Orlando airport. According to TMZ, “Orlando PD was contacted around 3 PM on Sunday” July 9th “after Alberto — real name Jose Rodriguez — allegedly roughed up a female companion.” Once the cops arrived at the scene, they determined more information was needed before anyone could be arrested or charged with a crime. As a result, the Orlando police department launched an investigation in hopes of getting more details about the incident between Alberto El Patron and Paige.

However, the Orlando police department wouldn’t be the only ones investigating the matter. According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, on July 10th the employer of Alberto, GFW/ Impact Wrestling stated that they would conduct their investigation into the incident. 11 days later, the Orlando police department informs Pro Wrestling Sheet that their inquiry concluded that; “Paige is the one who should be charged for domestic violence, they no longer view El Patron as a suspect.” While Alberto El Patron was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Orlando police department, GFW/ Impact Wrestling continued to investigate the matter until August 14th. On that day, GFW/ Impact Wrestling decided to indefinitely suspend Alberto El Patron and strip him of the Global Championship. According to their website, the company stated that they “have communicated with El Patron our decision to strip him of his championship title. No decision has been taken as to the date on which he will be reinstated to the roster”. However, about a month later the company announced that El Patron would return at Bound For Glory on November 5th.

Furthermore, the company aired a video package on Impact this week asking “What will he do?” when he returns. Due to this video package, one would expect the company to have El Patron in a major role on TV immediately. The easiest way to re-introduce Alberto as a major character is by having him join LAX at Bound For Glory. Alberto should come out during the 5150 street fight when OVE is getting beat down by all of LAX to make it appear like he will help OVE. Once he enters the ring, Alberto will attack OVE and help LAX recapture the tag team titles. Later in the evening, Eli Drake is shown backstage on the phone saying “will you help me defeat Johnny Impact in exchange for cash and a future title shot,” Drake proceeds to smile. During the main event, Drake hits the referee with the title by accident and waves to the back. LAX comes out to attack Johnny Impact and help Eli Drake retain the Global Championship.

During the next Impact episode, Alberto El Patron cuts a promo where he admits that Carlos was right that management doesn’t want Latino wrestlers to succeed. “First they stripped me of the world title after beating Bobby Lashley on this very show, then they stripped me for a second time after I was cleared of any wrongdoing in the domestic violence incident. Lastly, they refused to give Low-Ki a one on one match for the vacant title after I was suspended indefinitely, which is why he left. With that being said, Eli Drake, i want my title shot next week, ” and Drake reluctantly agrees. During that match, Johnny Impact interferes to attack Alberto El Patron causing the disqualification. Eventually, it leads to a triple threat match where El Patron pins Impact to win the championship.

Bobby Lashley Should Be Competing In Grand Championship Matches In The Near Future

Over the past month, there have been several reports that some people from American Top Team are trying to convince Bobby Lashley to reduce his wrestling schedule. In fact, according to PWInsider, “there’s been some pressure from America’s Top Team about Bobby Lashley concentrating full-time on MMA pursuit…. in regard to that situation”. Even though these reports seemed to be real at first, it now appears as if somebody within GFW leaked this information to the media to set up a future angle for Lashley. This is because GFW shot a segment at the American Top Team gym where the owner Dan Lambert and several other fighters; were giving their input on whether Lashley should focus on MMA or continue to do pro wrestling and MMA.The following week, GFW showed a segment where Jeff Jarrett went to the gym in hopes of reaching a compromise with Dan Lambert; that would allow Lashley to continue his wrestling career.  As a result of this, it appears that American Top Team has no problems with Lashley working for GFW; because if the team did they wouldn’t have given the company permission to film at the gym. Furthermore, if the reports are true why would GFW publicly acknowledge that one of their biggest stars is being pressured to leave wrestling by his MMA coaches.

As a result of this, GFW should set up a storyline where they shoot a bunch of segments that revolve around Lashley talking to GFW officials or ATT coaches about his plans. For instance, GFW could film a segment where he is meeting with ATT coaches to discuss what are the benefits of putting wrestling on the backburner and focusing on MMA. Eventually, he realizes that both sides bring up good points and starts thinking about possible solutions that satisfy both parties. After a few weeks of deliberation, he decides that he should incorporate his MMA training into matches. For example, every time he enters the ring his mindset will be to take down the opponent to land punches until the referee stops the match or they go unconscious. Unfortunately, he will dominate matches but end up losing because the opponent can slap on a submission out of nowhere or he doesn’t listen to the referee which causes a disqualification. Due to this, he concludes that it is impossible to do a standard match with an MMA style.

Therefore, he decides to set up a big meeting with GFW officials and ATT coaches to announce his retirement from pro wrestling. However, during the meeting, GFW officials bring up the idea of him competing in Grand Championship matches as a way to satisfy both sides. The idea behind this new belt/division was to introduce a new match style to fans where wrestlers would compete under MMA style rules. This contest consists of three separate rounds with a three-minute time limit per round and a ten point must scoring system. Once GFW officials explain the concept to ATT coaches, they conclude that it is an adequate solution that will make both sides happy.
